What Cellcomm Does

How Cellular Networks Work

An explainer hub for cellular communications — towers, spectrum, 5G, and coverage, translated from engineering into plain language.

📡

Towers & Cells

Why networks are built as overlapping cells, and what a tower actually transmits.

📻

Spectrum Basics

Low, mid, and high band — the trade-off between reach and speed explained simply.

5G in Practice

What 5G changes for real users versus what the marketing implied.

📶

Why Signal Drops

Buildings, terrain, congestion, and handoffs — diagnosing dead zones at home and on the road.

🗺️

Reading Coverage Maps

What carrier coverage maps do and do not show, and how to check real coverage.

🔧

Fixing Weak Signal

Wi-Fi calling, signal boosters, and carrier band differences that actually help.

Frequently Asked

Why is my signal strong outside but weak indoors?

Building materials — especially concrete, metal, and low-E glass — attenuate radio waves, and higher-frequency bands suffer most. Wi-Fi calling or a booster usually solves it.

Is 5G actually faster than 4G?

On mid and high band, substantially. On low band, the difference can be modest. Speed depends more on which spectrum your phone connects to than on the 5G logo.

Do more bars mean better service?

Not always — bars show signal strength, not network congestion. A strong signal to an overloaded tower can still be slow, which is why speed varies at the same spot.
